The Mossburn Vintage Casks range are a collection of Single Malt Scotch Whiskies each issuing from a strictly limited and select batch of casks. Each numbered release will only ever yield a finite number of bottles. While this means that we can never replicate the particular character of this Single Malt, it also offers an opportunity to sample what we believe to be an exceptional example of the whisky made by one of Scotland’s most distinguished distilleries.

It’s always nice to be able to bottle some of the little known Glen Spey. Originally a mill, but remodelled as a distillery in 1878, Glen Spey sits in the centre of the village of Rothes next door to the Glenrothes Distillery and across the road from Forsyths the famous still-makers.  Glen Spey’s production has a characteristic lightness from the purifiers fitted to the spirit stills, as well as a distinct fruitiness – making it an obvious candidate for our Apple Brandy casks which have enhanced it nicely.

After thirteen years in cask this whisky was then finished in Apple Brandy cask bill, this expression has developed a nose of baked apple, fresh fruit salad and cloves, vanilla custard creams but also some serious cereal and hay notes. On the palate, herbaceous fresh fruit, toffee popcorn, more cereal and some spicy barley sugar. At the finish, there is a dryish spirit touch.

This select release has been bottled at cask strength, without colouring or chill filtration, to showcase the purest expression of the Single Malt’s character.
